Denominations
Wager amounts
Denominations, or “denoms” are the financial amount per credit wagered. Quarter, .50 cents or dollar are the most common examples in video poker, although with the many successful multi-hand games available these days, nickel and dime denoms have become more popular. Players and casinos often associate themselves or their players based on the base denomination they play the most.
Denom options
IGT machines provide you with a multitude of denominations you can enable. However, most of the play will occur on about 3 or 4 denominations. The most successful casinos typically set up their denominations in the following way:
$1 .25 .05 |
$2 .50 .25 |
$5 $2 $1 |
Many casinos neglect the .50 cent option, which is often a missed opportunity. The .50 cent player is often someone who has done well in quarters and wants to increase their stakes a bit and is a player who can’t or won’t play dollars. Another benefit of .50 cents is for a player who doesn’t like IRS W-2G paperwork. IRS Paperwork avoidance is especially true for Double Double Bonus Poker players who like to hit aces with a kicker for a grand and stay under that taxable threshold of $1,200.00. If they hit a royal, they will have to deal with it.
